Solving Keylok USB Security Key Issues in Windows 11

AlertNote: This article pertains to the green Keylok dongle. If you have a purple HASP Sentinel key, refer to this article and follow the instructions to install the HASP Win 10/11 driver manually.

Keylok Driver Update

If your Windows 11 PC does not find the Keylok USB key (it will show up as unknown in the Windows Device Manager and the license will not validate) do the following:
  1. Go to the Keylok Website and download Install.exe from their support page. This is their latest release.
  2. Follow the instructions of the setup wizard; it will prompt you when it is time to insert the dongle.
  3. When prompted for Dongle Type, check KEYLOK 2 (USB w/Driver). When prompted for Installation Type, select Standalone.
  4. After installation, the license will validate. If it doesn't, read on to the next section.

Windows Memory Integrity

In Windows 11, Windows Memory Integrity can prevent the Keylok driver from loading. If this happens, even with the latest Keylok driver installed, the USB key will have a caution sign in device manager and Windows will throw a pop-up saying a security setting prevented a driver from loading. To fix go to Windows Security, then go to Core Isolation, and turn Memory Integrity off. Reboot. The driver will load.

NOTE: There are some facilities where IT disallows disabling Windows Memory Integrity. Here is how to make the Keylok driver authenticate with Memory Integrity turned on:

1. Before you install the new Keylok driver (Install.exe) from the Keylok website (link above), remove the current Keylok driver using Windows PowerShell. (When you install VoxPro, an older Keylok driver is installed, so that will need to come out.) The procedure is described here.
2. Download a new FTDI driver here. (there are two of them, called VCP and D2XX, version 2.12.34.4) This is for the VoxPro USB controller.
3. Install the new Keylok driver. Install the new FTDI drivers. Once both are installed, VoxPro should be able to validate the security key and controller with Memory Integrity turned on.
