OLED displays are great, that is, until they wear out. Whether it's on your mobile phone, television, or audio console, all OLED displays will fade out over time.
Wheatstone sets the defaults on all of our products using OLEDs to dim the displays when the controls are not being used to prolong their life as long as possible. After all, the average radio station will use an audio console for about 10 years. Most consumer electronics like mobile phones are used for 2 to 4 years in comparison.
We have observed that exposure to UV light can cause OLED displays to fade out prematurely. As a result, in April 2026 we started adding clear UV protective lenses to our audio consoles to protect the screens. These lenses mount between the screen and the metalwork to block UV light from reaching the screen. Think of them as a clear pair of sunglasses for your console.
Wheatstone will provide a retrofit kit of protective lenses for customers with LXE, GSX, L-Series, and DMX consoles free of charge that you can install on consoles purchased before this manufacturing change. While we cannot undo what UV light has already done to the screens in the field, we can provide the UV protective lenses we are installing on our new consoles to you so you can prolong the life of what you've already purchased and to have in place when it's time to start replacing faded screens.
