Problem #
A workstation with a Wheatnet IP Driver can play back audio but not record. Adobe Audition or VoxPro throw an error saying it cannot connect to the record device (or in Audition this could be an “unspecified error”).
The audio device is visible in Windows Control Panel but there are no record meters in Control Panel even though it’s being fed audio.
Solution #
The Microphone Privacy setting in Windows 10 and higher needs to be turned on.
- In Windows, click the magnifying glass for search and begin to type “microphone”
- When you see Microphone Privacy Settings, click on that
- Turn Microphone Privacy on for desktop applications.
This is a security feature to prevent someone from listening in to your conversations without your knowledge on a laptop. That’s nice, but it
breaks your ability to do audio production when it’s turned on!
